Park and Square in Sant Pau d'Ordal
OL Arquitectes, Kathy Lindstrom, Iñaki Ozcáriz Raventós
The park unites the two parts of the village and solves the steep slope of 15 meters between the central square and the football field. The solution consists in the use of successive breakwater type reteining walls that contour the topography and acts as a contention wall. At the same time, a network of paths is created that connect the central square with the football field. This strategy of creating paths between the containment terraces means that the roads can be made longer, achieving softer slopes and facilitating accessibility to the elderly or those with wheelchairs. In turn, the zigzag tours offer varied views of the village and its distant vineyards. The reteining walls are made of limestone inspired by the agricultural dry stone terraces of the surrounding area. The dry stone technique allows to adapt to the steep slopes and the movements of the terrain avoiding large reinforced concrete walls and also providing a human scale and a landscape integration in the environment.2021
