In this first stage, the catalogue focuses on the modern and contemporary architecture designed and built between 1832 –year of construction of the first industrial chimney in Barcelona that we establish as the beginning of modernity– until today.
The project is born to make the architecture more accessible both to professionals and to the citizens through a website that is going to be updated and extended. Contemporary works of greater general interest will be incorporated, always with a necessary historical perspective, while gradually adding works from our past, with the ambitious objective of understanding a greater documented period.
The collection feeds from multiple sources, mainly from the generosity of architectural and photographic studios, as well as the large amount of excellent historical and reference editorial projects, such as architectural guides, magazines, monographs and other publications. It also takes into consideration all the reference sources from the various branches and associated entities with the COAC and other collaborating entities related to the architectural and design fields, in its maximum spectrum.
Special mention should be made of the incorporation of vast documentation from the COAC Historical Archive which, thanks to its documental richness, provides a large amount of valuable –and in some cases unpublished– graphic documentation.
The rigour and criteria for selection of the works has been stablished by a Documental Commission, formed by the COAC’s Culture Spokesperson, the director of the COAC Historical Archive, the directors of the COAC Digital Archive, and professionals and other external experts from all the territorial sections that look after to offer a transversal view of the current and past architectural landscape around the territory.
The determination of this project is to become the largest digital collection about Catalan architecture; a key tool of exemplar information and documentation about architecture, which turns into a local and international referent, for the way to explain and show the architectural heritage of a territory.

La reduïda dimensió del programa en relació a l'espai públic i l’entorn construït demanaven provocar un creixement en volum de l’edifici que el dotés de la màxima presència al lloc. Aquest objectiu s’aconsegueix mitjançant dos mecanismes: la planta baixa es configura en un seguit de quatre barres paral·leles que es desplacen entre si provocant l’aparició de patis d’iluminació i de relació entre peces i la planta alta es planteja com un volum geomètricament rotund que busca una relació frontal amb l’edifici històric de la zona, el Mas Iglesias. A l'interior els diferents àmbits s’interelacionen en horitzontal a través dels patis i verticalment es connecta visualment el vestíbul amb la planta primera i l’altell a través d’un buit que acull l’escala. En el tractament de l’interior s’ha buscat un cert contrast amb l’exterior, la neutralitat del blanc permet posar en valor les diferents qualitats de la llum i alhora fer dels llibres i les persones els màxims protagonistes. -

L'edifici existent es va construir el 1925 a l'eixample desenvolupat als inicis del s. XX al voltant del Mercat Municipal de Tarragona. Es tracta d'un edifici de 4 plantes, entre mitgeres, de 8,35 m de façana i 17,20 m de profunditat, amb un total de 3 habitatges i un local comercial. Inicialment s'estudien diferents alternatives d'actuació: des de la mera rehabilitació, passant per l'enderroc, fins a l'ampliació. La possibilitat de remuntar dues plantes aprofitant l'edificabilitat encara no esgotada, mantenint però l'edifici existent, sembla la opció més eficient, raonable i sostenible. Renovació urbana, densificació de la ciutat construïda i optimització de recursos materials i econòmics. Així doncs es passa de 3 a 9 habitatges, tipològicament més adequats a la demanda social. La remunta s'executa amb estructura metàl·lica, reforçant els pilars de fàbrica i la fonamentació. La nova materialitat pretén una immediata identificació de la transformació de l'edifici. Façana ventilada amb safates verticals de composite d'alumini que incorporen els porticons que protegeixen les obertures versus arrebossat de morter de calç amb veladura de silicats. Tanmateix la part rehabilitada ha permès la recuperació de la galeria a la façana interior i la restitució de la geometria original de les llosanes dels balcons i dels arcs de les obertures en planta baixa.Mostres d'Arquitectura (Camp de Tarragona)
