A multi-family housing building between partitions in the old fishing district of Badalona. There are premises on the ground floor and four homes, one per floor. This is a special assignment as it is a case of self-promotion for a family. This implies that the common areas of the building are much friendlier and predisposed to sharing, moving away from the neutrality and anti-vandal predisposition that usually characterises this type of space in conventional housing buildings. The spiral staircase is more of a place to be, well-lit and destined for circulation between the different homes. Access to the apartments is made directly from the elevator that lands in the living room.
A volume that arises from the urban planning needs that derive from the appearance of a new promenade, from the change of section of the road. The houses retreat and grow in height, thus configuring a new type of urban street. Now it is this temporary space straddling what was and what it wants to be, it is a hybrid, changing and surprising path.
The program is organised with a common room-space on the ground floor and four homes per floor. As a result of the sizes of the homes, the common areas of the building are defined as predisposed to sharing, moving away from the neutrality and anti-vandal predisposition that usually characterises this type of space.
Access to the apartments is directly from the elevator that lands in the living room. The spiral staircase is also a place to be, well-lit and destined for circulation and leisure. The typology is compact and passable. The living room overlooks the two façades and leaves on its sides flexible enclosures that delimit the rooms and then the bathrooms, with ceramic coating on the walls and floor. The kitchen opens to the façade and the living room. The roof is defined in relation to the city and the sea, as a social and community leisure space.
The two façades have a very contrasting conception. The one in the patio, very simple to the south-east, overlooking the sea, is sober and of a Mediterranean design. The façade of the street is more cheerful, it is related to the city and to the modernist tradition of the area.
