Cal Sorribes
autoria desconeguda
In the group of buildings located at the foot of Sant Salvador del Quer, forming part of the Vallseca complex, there is a quadrangular building with two interesting constructions attached to it. To the south, one construction has a gallery with three semicircular arches and, to the north, a circular construction. The walls are of irregular masonry. Its external appearance suggests different construction phases, and it seems the arcades are not part of the oldest structure of the complex. The main building has three floors with a gable roof. It has undergone renovations, especially in the auxiliary constructions, which show a composition of sober materials and modern workmanship. It appears in the 1860 census with two buildings of one and two storeys. In the 1868 census it appears as the property of Salvador Sorribes.1860

Director de Mines Chalet
Set of two semi-detached houses located in the middle of a garden with two floors and an attic. The ground plan is made up of three rectangles – a more elongated one to which two more are attached perpendicularly, forming a U-shape. The openings with lintels have a flush arch above them. In any case, there are many arched openings, such as the triforated windows in the gables of the attic or in the porch on the ground floor. Under the eaves, the decorative motif is a strip of white and blue glazed ceramic. The gabled roof is very pointed and has geometric decorative motifs on the ridge tiles, with a differentiation in colour. The chalets that were the homes of the mine managers began to be built in 1918. They form part of the Solvay workers' town concept. Semi-detached Houses in Colònia Santa Maria
autoria desconeguda
A group of houses arranged around a street. There are 12 blocks, each of which houses two families, and they all have the same characteristics: they are made of brick, gabled with tiles, and they have a date in glazed ceramic at the top: 1918. Their main characteristic is that the block is divided in half vertically, not by floors. Rectangular in shape, they have an annex on each side, also with a rectangular structure. Each block is surrounded by a small garden that clearly defines the houses, which are on the ground floor and have two access doors: one on the façade and the other on the side, which leads to the kitchen. Villas A group of five buildings or towers surrounded and separated at the same time by a large garden. These are houses for executives. The five blocks have the same floor plan, with a few small exceptions. The main feature is that each block is split vertically in half and houses two families. The five blocks have the same floor plan with a few minor exceptions. The main feature is that each block is split vertically down the middle and houses two families. Looking at the side and front façades, the differentiation of the three floors can be seen, marked by a border that delimits the floors on the outside. The border of the first floor runs along the whole house, while that of the second floor only runs along the long sides. At the foot of the walls there is a kind of padding half a metre high. The third floor is lower than the other two. The whole building is made of exposed brick, as are the decorative elements. The gable roof is tiled, some of it glazed in green. There are also white and green tiles on part of the façade, combined rhythmically. Until 1982 they were owned by the company, and this year they were put up for sale and bought by their inhabitants. -

Sant Cristòfol de Súria Church
autoria desconeguda
The church, located in the centre of the town, has three naves, a structure that can be seen in the three-part façade, the middle section of which is extended by the bell tower. It is accessed by a large double staircase on either side. The central nave ends with a painted apse, and the right-hand side has an annexed section that partially respects the structure of its apse, used as a sacristy. The construction system is modern, and the material used was ashlar, reinforced concrete and brick. It is difficult to categorise it in a specific style, nor can we consider it eclectic. In 1930 the land belonging to the parish church, some 100 metres from the current site and also far from the parish school, was sold and the decision was made to buy the land adjacent to the schools (current location). In 1935 construction began and due to the war only the load-bearing structures remain. In 1939-40 the church was roofed, forgetting the sumptuous initial project. In 1941 the bell tower was finished and in 1965 the main altar was made.1935 - 1941

Azorín Cake Shop
autoria desconeguda
The bakery was located on the ground floor of a four-storey building with an attic in Plaça d’Anselm Clavé. The woodwork, floral decorations on the ceiling, glass and bronze display cases under the counter and Catalan Art Nouveau electric lights in the interior are all worth mentioning. The building has undergone renovations, and the shop is now closed, with the entrance bricked up. The Azorín Cake Shop was the successor to the former Biadiu, owned by Jaume Biadiu Morera, before Ventureta, also known as ‘La Palma’. By 1915, it was already Biadiu, which also had an industrial plant at Carrer Born 1 in Manresa, where chocolate and other sweets were produced. -

Súria City Council and Schools
An isolated building, located in the central district of the town, on a 3480 square metre plot of land, with the building occupying only 382.70 square metres (17.20 metres wide by 22.25 metres deep). It has a ground floor and two upper floors with a central courtyard for light and ventilation, where the staircase leading to the first floor is located. It has a regular and symmetrical façade composition with vertical axes of openings, in slightly trefoil arches, with alternating balconies with iron railings and windows. The central axis of the main façade contains the lintelled doorway and the representative balcony, with a voussoired arch and the coat of arms of the town council in relief on the keystone. Above the cornice, a mixtilinear pediment. The doorway leads to a courtyard with a grand staircase around which the rooms are organised. The courtyard and staircase are designed in the tradition of the Catalan Gothic house, a Noucentista feature which, together with the rationality and simplification of the forms, gives character to the building. The roof is made of wood and tiles. The material used is brick. The work was promoted by the mayor of the time, Jaume Biadiu Morera, because the premises occupied by the Town Hall were needed for housing. The awarding of the works to Jeroni Martorell without a prior tender was motivated by his acquaintance with the town hall secretary Mario Arnal Duran. The building was born as a Town Hall and Public Schools, which were two separate buildings attached to both sides of the town hall. Of the two annexes, one no longer exists today and the other was never even built. -
Colònia de Santa Maria neighborhood
autoria desconeguda
A neighbourhood located on a hill, now integrated with the rest of the town. It was born as a working-class neighbourhood at the beginning of the century, linked to the mining company that until now was its owner. Of a regular typology, it is made up of a transversal street on both sides of which a series of streets open up where the buildings are aligned - the plans for its construction came from Belgium, the place of origin of the owners of the mines. The houses are of different construction types and are also intended for different people: at the top are the rectangular blocks of the miners' families, which are of exposed brick, with two flats per floor. A little further down there are some towers with gardens, also made of exposed brick, for the higher-ranking workers; further down still, other (more sumptuous) towers, also made of exposed brick, are for the executives. Despite the difference in the constructions, the complex has an air of unity achieved with the material. However, the complex differs quite a lot from the rest of the typology and the constructions of the town. The buildings were constructed in the second decade of the 20th century. In 1982 the company put all the houses up for sale, and they have been bought at low prices by their inhabitants. Until now the buildings and the land were owned by the company that ran the potash mines in the village. -
