Old Canals i Nubiola Winery
Set of underground galleries built at different constructive times. The old Canals i Nubiola wineries are built under the urban centre of Sant Esteve Sesrovires and are considered the oldest underground quarries in Catalonia. The wineries are still in full operation. The construction of the old cellars of the Canals family began in 1860. That year, the construction of a cellar began under the country house-residence of the Canals family, which is located on Carrer Major, on the corner with the current Carrer de Martorell. This cava, named Sant Jordi, began to be produce champagne in 1882. Near his residence, known as Can Canals, Magí Canals had a piece of land with porches and patios located on the same block. On the other hand, according to Llorenç Oller i Bultó's project, in 1875 Magí Canals i Ferrer decided to build in front of his house, on the other side of Carrer Major, an enclosed courtyard with an installation for producing cava and a cellar. Years later, in 1890, Isidre Capellades Goulart sold some land adjacent to the Goulart family's garden to Josep Canals i Nubiola, who then commissioned the construction of cellars from the Barcelona builder Josep Bou Estruch. Bou had arrived in the town to work on the construction of the new parish church. A kilometer of galleries were excavated 30 metres deep. In 1914, the Can Canals underground quarries were extended. The Can Canals house already had underground galleries intended for aging and preserving the wines from its own harvest (cave). It became necessary to extend the wineries, and the yard that the owner deposited on the other side of Carrer Major, known as "Clos de Can Canals" was used to build the extension of the underground galleries. To pass from one building to the other, it was necessary to cross the main street in a straight line across its entire width, at a minimum depth of 8 m. According to the project, the gallery had to have a height of 3 m and a maximum width also of 3 m and the walls, vault and floor had to be covered with brick and cement. In 1920, the new modernist cellar was built, coinciding with one of the heyday of the cellars. In 1988, an expansion of the facilities was carried out with the "Proyecto de Ampliación de la Industria de Elaboración de Vinos Espumosos" located on Carrer Major 3, in the same place where the "Clos de can Canals" was built ", as well as the construction of a new connecting tunnel. The name of the Roger Goulart cava company combines two of the most representative lineages of Sant Esteve Sesrovires: the Goularts, or Gulart, and the Canals. The first were originally from the French Basque Country and arrived in the town at the end of the 18th century (a branch of the family founded Can Golart d'Esparreguera).1920

Can Brians Prison
Bonell i Gil Arquitectes, Esteve Bonell i Costa, Manuel Brullet i Tenas, Josep Maria Gil i Guitart, Francesc Rius i Camps
To build a prison is to build a closed world, as were abbeys, monasteries or ancient acropolises. In the image of all of them, a prison is a small abstract world, located in a rural environment where 1500 people live and work. Human relationships, personal and collective interactions and, ultimately, a strong relationship between man and space appear. It is about creating a "city" on virgin land, taking into account geographic and landscape considerations to achieve a good implementation, but above all, it is about solving the highly complex programmatic aspects where control and security issues are prioritised. Urban situations similar to, but not equal to, those of the traditional city are considered. Here the square is not a meeting place, the street has more of a sense of separation than of communication, and in the façades seclusion is more important than the communication between interior and exterior.1986 - 1991

Civic and Healthcare Centre and Town Hall
The project is considered as an urban integration option for the building, within a larger civic and cultural complex in the town of Sant Esteve de Sesrovires. The current casino theatre, the day care centre, the garden area, the square and the project of the new building are considered as a unit within the current structure of Sant Esteve de Sesrovires, building a large area where citizens can participate and develop their activities, avoiding the disintegration of each of the architectural actions, in a population of 1,500 inhabitants. Located on a rectangular 10x42 metre plot, three of its façades border different streets and the fourth one adjoins the existing day centre. The project is proposed in two volumes with different formal characteristics, separated from each other by half a level and joined by an exterior ramp/street that gives access to each of the outbuildings, so that each of them communicates directly with the outside. In the basement, taking advantage of the existing unevenness, we find the health centre, with its independent entrance from the central part of the plot. The exhibition and conference room raised by means of pilotis receives a formal treatment that, due to its joint volumetry, is directly related to the more urban buildings, the theatre, the casino and the gardens. The rest of the programme, national police car park, post offices, associations’ meeting room and room for the youth, are located in the container building capable of admitting any change of programme.1990 - 1994
