The objective was to adapt the new headquarters of the BCD (Barcelona Design Centre) as an exhibition space on the ground floor of a building in Passeig de Gràcia. The available space was developed on three floors without natural lighting. One was at street level, long and narrow, connected at the end with the other two lower ones. Faced with the complexity of the ground floor (two cinemas, storefronts, etc.), efforts were made to individualise the entrance to the premises, retracting it, replacing the narrow initial door with a large storefront entrance. A fire-enamelled side scroll with the initials BCD ruled over the spacious hall. The entrance with a counter for information and book sales and the beginning of the exhibition area and the offices was on the ground floor at street level. The exhibition area delimited the offices by means of a semi-reflective glass membrane, finished with a gentle curve, where the library is located. Administration services could alter their distribution by means of mobile separation panels. The staircase, at the bottom, incorporated and linked the access floor with the other two. The two lower floors were intended for exhibition and meeting rooms. A global solution of the same was offered, through a double-height space. This space coincided with the void of the upper floor where the access staircase was. A secondary staircase enabled communication between the two floors through different areas of the route. On the lower floor, objects of greater volume could be exposed in the area corresponding to the double height. The meeting room, separated by a sliding door, provided a space with capacity for 100 people. It is completely folded: a unique space was achieved throughout the floor. It was about solving the individuality of access to the premises, facilitating the visitors' journey and giving a sense of spatial continuity on the three floors.

Setanta dos apartaments i locals comercials, situats en una franja de terreny que separa dos petits pobles de l’Alt Pirineu, Llessui i Torre. Es planteja la nova construcció com una agrupació d’habitatges amb una imatge potent, que donés resposta tant a l’escala i caràcter dels dos pobles veïns com al paisatge natural, el veritable protagonista. Els apartaments es disposen en dos edificis lineals emplaçats paral·lelament en el solar, segons el pendent, la bona orientació i les vistes. Un carrer – escala – rampa ortogonal als dos blocs travessa i ordena l’implantació.

Un difícil compromís. Construir un edifici industrial en un paisatge d’alta muntanya, al Pirineu de Lleida. Un prat, a la cota baixa de la vall al costat del riu Garona, envoltats per altes muntanyes i per petites construccions disseminades. L’edifici, ja des del programa funcional havia d’assumir un traçat longitudinal proper al 200 m. Encara en el món de les idees, el projecte intentarà intuïtivament dialogar amb les grans traces del paisatge que l’envolta, amb la suau ondulació del recorregut del riu, els abstractes recorreguts i retalls que defineixen els plecs de les muntanyes veïnes i les línies de les seves crestes retallades contra el cel. L’edifici vol ser una traça més del paisatge. La definició de la secció conformarà la imatge del conjunt. La seva construcció serà en sec. Tindrà dues façanes diferenciades: la principal, amb accessos per a vianants, donarà a la carretera; la posterior, davant del riu, serà el lloc en el qual s’ubicaran els ports de càrrega i descàrrega i l’aparcament de vehicles industrials. La idea d’abordar el compromís plantejat fugint de folklorismes i maquillatges, també es fa extensiu a la utilització i a l’ús de materials, acords amb el món industrial. El procés constructiu s’elaborà utilitzant diversos elements prefabricats donada la gran quantitat de neu existent a la zona i els escassos mesos de bon temps.

Given the complexity of the program, the complex is arranged on the Passeig de Torreblanca and looking south over the Arborètum Park. The main entrances from the Theatre to the Conservatory are arranged on a large platform, benefiting from the views over the Arborètum, as this building sits on one of the lateral façades of the large theatre building. The large volume of this building maintains its presence and stands as the main character of the complex. The project tries to solve a tough functional program from its volumetrics. The theatre will be the protagonist of the whole operation. The rest of the built bodies are arranged around the large central box, with which an attempt is made to solve the scale problem posed by the lateral and rear façades of the theatre. This arrangement of additions to the central body will allow a specialisation of the accesses to the different buildings with the creation of an elevated platform, which, while performing the function of an outdoor public square, organises the arrangement of the accesses to the Theatre and Conservatory from on two of its sides, as well as representing the function of a virtual door to the Arborètum's neighbouring park. The building, given its functional characteristics, is manifested by its volume, reaching its maximum height in the scenic box, which allows the folding of sets. The room extends over two levels: one at the access level, which forms the platform, and another at the level of the amphitheatre, which is accessed by stairs located laterally. The capacity of the hall is 746 spectators, which makes it possible to have very appropriate equipment for the city and its surroundings. The special formal diversification of the building is what will allow the different parts to be understood as a single built complex and will try to solve the obvious problem of scale posed between the large central volume and its encounters with the immediate urban environment, establishing at the same time and from more distant readings an image of autonomy and representativeness in accordance with the characteristics of the centre.

L’edifici és concebut com un gran contenidor situat davant d’una plaça, que a més de donar accés a l’auditori assenyala l’entrada al teixit urbà. El nucli del programa és format per dues sales públiques d’audicions musicals i un conservatori de música. Al voltant d’aquest programa central s’organitza un complex sistema de serveis i dependències annexes. La gran sala principal ocupa un buit al centre de l’edifici, de manera que al voltant s’hi disposen les aules i la resta de serveis. Amb aquesta solució és possible donar un caràcter urbà a les quatre façanes de l’edifici. A la façana principal s’hi adossen les peces més singulars, la qual cosa permet atorgar-li un caire més monumental, vinculat a la visió frontal però també a la visió escorada que encara els carrers laterals. Les façanes a aquests carrers assumeixen un caràcter secundari, sotmès a la regularitat volumètrica de tot el conjunt.

L’edifici adopta una configuració clarament longitudinal, parallela a la prevista rambla de Pardinyes. Aquesta disposició permet d’allotjar el programa de les aules al llarg d’un corredor, mentre que les escales de comunicació vertical formen un cos diferenciat i posicionat a la part central. La sala d’actes i la biblioteca formen dos cossos de geometria irregular situats a l’espai que separa l’edifici de la rambla, i entre tots dos cossos queda el pas de l’entrada i un gran vestíbul que cohesiona tot l’organisme. L’edifici té vocació de construir un lloc urbà que encara no existeix, i en el qual la planta baixa ha d’assumir la condició d’un espai públic.

The library is located at the north-west end of Civic Square on the Northern Campus of the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC). Through its interior, cutting the building obliquely, runs an access street to Civic Square which transforms into the lobby of the building. The interior is organised in several very neutral rooms that must allow for the constant reorganisation of the building as new technologies take centre stage in the library. The North Campus forms an almost continuous façade against which the volume of the white limestone building is cut, with a huge opening that marks the beginning of the path. The façade contrasts in volume, composition, openings and colour with the rear façade. The rest of the building's façades are made of stone. In Civic Square, the façade is completely glazed and contrasts with the previous ones, which signifies it. The roof illuminates the upper floors and takes the shape of a saw tooth oriented to strict north, with an oblique geometry with respect to the rest of the building's geometries. The upper room, carpeted, always quiet, is very pleasant to visit. The vertical connectivity that the lobby gives to the entire building is also spectacular, a singular lobby for a building called to be one of the relationship centres of the entire Northern Campus.

La residència se situa a l’extrem nord-oest del campus de Cappont, tancant la filera d’edificis universitaris que es recolza en el carrer de Jaume II. L’edifici adopta la forma d’un braç allargat, amb un corredor central i habitacions a totes dues bandes. Per l’extrem nord l’espai de circulacions s’obre i conforma la façana que dóna al riu. La filera d’habitacions que es recolza en la façana oest segueix fidelment la corba suau del carrer i les estances se succeeixen de forma ininterrompuda. La crugia que dóna a l’interior del campus opera dues obertures que permeten l’entrada de la llum natural als espais de circulació i disposen les habitacions cap a les millors vistes. D’aquesta manera, l’edifici es configura com una resposta volumètrica a les condicions de l’entorn que es produeix amb independència a cadascuna de les façanes, assignant una orientació i una identitat formal a l’edifici.

El disseny de l’edifici es fa ressò de la seva condició suburbana, en tant que element capaç de crear un nou focus d’activitat, lluny del centre i a la vora del mar. L’organisme dóna l’esquena a la ciutat per mitjà d’un volum gairebé cec, de tres façanes que formen un angle agut, per on té lloc l’entrada. La planta baixa allibera un recorregut continu des de l’entrada fins a la façana oposada, que s’obre al mar a través d’un mur vidrat que abasta tota l’alçària de l’edifici, i que queda protegit per una gran marquesina orientada a la Mediterrània. La planta baixa es presenta com un espai diàfan en continuïtat amb la plaça que es crea a la part posterior, i gràcies a un pati enjardinat que garanteix la transparència entre la part anterior i la posterior. En aquesta planta hi ha l’Oficina de Turisme i d’altres petites dependències, mentre que la planta superior es destina pròpiament a biblioteca.

L’edifici es troba situat al nou campus de la Universitat Rovira i Virgili a Sescelades, a Tarragona. Es planteja un edifici que segueix la traça i la concepció en planta de l’Escola d’Enginyeria Química, situada a la parcel·la contigua. Al planejament general del campus existeix el requeriment de comunicar les dues escoles per sobre del carrer del Mig. És per això que apareix una continuïtat dels passadissos i una disposició volumètrica similar. El projecte es disposa al voltant de dos patis. Un d’aquests patis, el de dimensions menors, és el que aplega els laboratoris i els espais de recerca, i en l’altre, més generós i en comunicació amb la resta del campus, s’ubiquen els aularis. La connexió entre els dos patis es realitza a través de les zones administratives i els deganats, els quals, a causa de la posició estratègica, es resolen amb volumetries més lliures. Els espais de pas es disposen sempre sobre la façana sud i les aules a la cara nord, per tal d’aprofitar la llum natural sense problemes d’enlluernament. En el cas dels laboratoris docents els passadissos són exteriors, donant sobre el pati central entre els dos edificis. Per davant dels passadissos existeix una gran gelosia de lamel·les de pedra i metall que els protegeix del sol. Al bloc de l’aulari seran les aules les que miraran cap al pati interior. La utilització del formigó com a element base i definidor de l’ordre de tot el conjunt és un dels elements bàsics del projecte, així com la relació de totes les peces amb l’exterior.

The new Dexeus University Institute is located on the site of the old Psychiatric Hospital. The project establishes a linear container on Sabino Arana Street and incorporates a series of complementary functions within the building of the old Psychiatric Hospital building, cataloged by the Municipal Heritage Service. The project maintains the desire to incorporate and link the two buildings, fostering an intentional relationship between the new and the old. The interstitial space between the two architectures is formalised as a covered atrium, which at the same time will be a functional interchange between different clinical areas, the garden of the old psychiatric clinic and Sabino Arana Street. This space, open but conditioned, will function as a true lobby and meeting place between the different users. The new building will contain all those functions directly linked to the clinical world and the old building will incorporate functions served such as teaching and conference areas. The complex will make it possible to have new equipment for the city and at the same time resolve the boundaries with Sabino Arana Street and establish a link through the atrium with the renovated building of the Psychiatric Institute, as well as the recovery of the garden and the arboreal area of the old Psychiatric Institute, a garden protected by the high value of the plant elements it contains.

The intermodal building and connection to Terminals A and B is externally characterised by a façade that extends beyond the dimensions of the building itself, as an attempt is made to establish continuity between the façades of Terminal B, from the Miró mural, and from terminal A. The project proposes a neutral façade in its treatment so as not to create mimicry with the current façades. For this reason, a clad façade of extruded aluminum is proposed, which aligns with the façades of the neighbouring terminals. The volume of the new building is located separately from the new façade closure and acts as an independent volume, with an envelope of four façades with a double skin. The inner skin is of opal pavé, which will act as a large public skylight towards the interior, while the exterior is made of polycarbonate. The space in between serves as a service gallery.
